Actor David Hewlett is best known for his award-winning role as Dr Rodney McKay, of Stargate Atlantis (currently filming), and his twice-Gemini-nominated role as Grant Jansky, on the Canadian drama Traders. He also won a Golden Sheaf award for his role in the short film Elevated, and was named Best Actor at the Stratford-Upon-Avon Film Festival for his role in A Dog's Breakfast, which won for Best Film. A "British"-style comedy of errors, the film marked his directorial and screenwriting debut.

Besides Elevated, David has starred, to critical acclaim, in several films by long-time friend, director Vincenzo Natali, including the wickedly-funny and bizarre Nothing, which he also co-conceived.

David lives with his wife and creative partner-in-crime, Jane Loughman, their son Baz, and their dog, A
Dog's Breakfast star Mars.

Early Life and Career

Born David Ian Hewlett, April 18th, 1968, in Surrey, England. As a youth, David filmed home movies with his friends there, using an 8-millimeter camera. His family moved to Toronto,Canada when he was still young. He began acting in High School, starring in student films produced by his friend Natali (Over twenty years later, they're still in touch, David having just played a role in Natali's Spliced). David left high school to pursue careers in both acting and computers (a decision that served him well when he landed the role of computer genius Grant Jansky).

David's first major film role was the lead in Pin, a horror film which also starred Lost's Terry O'Quinn (John Locke).
